UPDATED 4:44 P.M. - Gilroy High's girls basketball team will face Piedmont Hills in the CCS quarterfinals Saturday at 1 p.m. at Milpitas High School.

GILROY - Bob Hagen Gymnasium can rest peacefully until next winter, as both of Gilroy High's basketball teams left the hometown hardwood as heroes.

Gilroy girls' basketball team moved past Homestead 60-38 Thursday night in the first round of the Central Coast Section playoffs, two days after the GHS boys won their opening-round CCS game over visiting Silver Creek.

Sovi Nou scored 20 points for Gilroy, which dominated Homestead in the first 16 minutes to take a 33-13 lead into halftime.

The two teams took turns going on scoring runs in the second half, as Homestead (15-12) got to within 12, 45-33, but couldn't cut any deeper into its deficit. Gilroy's Chelsea Hill had 12 points, Ashlee Williams and Lauren Rhodes both had eight, and Ashley Lambert scored six.

"I'd say that Ashlee Williams and Sovi Nou, they were just awesome," Gilroy coach Susan Shapiro said. "And Hill owned the boards tonight."

The Lady Mustangs (17-10) will now be on the road the rest of the season, as they face No. 4 Piedmont Hills (19-9) Saturday in the CCS quarterfinals at Milpitas High School.

"We played them (twice) this summer, we split with them," Shapiro said. "We're going to have to battle with them every step of the way. But if we come out confident and assured, we can make it happen."
